Grace and Truth church is a multicultural community of believers who love Jesus, love people, and are passionate about seeing lives transformed by the good news  of Jesus Christ.

Our mission is ‘bringing people to know Jesus through participating in God’s family, proclaiming God’s Word, practising Jesus’ love, partnering in God’s mission to the world, by the power of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of God.’

Our church name, ‘Grace and Truth church’, embodies our commitment to follow Jesus’s example of graciously loving people while at the same time proclaiming, practising, and preserving the truth of God’s Word, as we believe both grace and truth are needed if people are to experience the life changing power of Jesus Christ.

Our Story

Our story began when 5 people, who lived and worked in the city of Parramatta, saw a need for more churches in this growing city, particularly amongst the Asian community. After many years of praying for and evangelizing in that area, they felt the Lord call them to start a church there. Their vision was to start a multicultural church that is gospel-centred, faithful to the Bible, fervent in fulfilling the Great Commission through evangelism and disciple-making, and reliant on the power of Holy Spirit, where all who join can experience the joy and love of belonging in God's family.

Although none of them had any prior pastoral experience, and they had no financial backing from any established church, they stepped out in faith to pursue God’s calling. After one year of praying, planning and seeking the Lord, the first church service was launched on 3 January 2013. The name Grace and Truth church was adopted due to our desire to be a church that is full of grace and full of truth, as exemplified by Christ in John 1:14.

Due to a lack of available venues, the church met initially in a rented church hall in Harris Park on Saturdays. At first, only a handful of people attended. Since most of the new visitors were migrants from mainland China, a decision was made to switch our services from English to Chinese.

By the grace of God, more Chinese people started to attend. After 1 year, the church was able to rent the Lions Club Hall on Sundays in North Parramatta, where it has been holding church services ever since. The church grew steadily over the years.

On 17 November 2019, an additional English service was launched, and we now have people from different ethnic backgrounds attending our church. Although still in its infancy years, the church is growing year by year and we have seen many people changed by the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

Our vision is to be a church planting church that makes disciples of Christ of all nations and brings the hope and love of Jesus Christ to the world. Would you like to be part of our story? We would love for you to become a member of our vibrant and loving community.

Our Leadership Team

Apostolos and Helen

Apostolos is the lead pastor of Grace and Truth church. He and his wife Helen are both founding members of the church. Apostolos was a radiographer before entering Bible college, graduating from Sydney Missionary Bible College with a MDiv degree in 2015. He is also a volunteer chaplain at Cumberland Hospital.

His great helper is his wife Helen, who translates his sermon into Mandarin for the Mandarin congregation, and assists him in pastoral care, training, children, music and counselling ministries. Both love Jesus, and are passionate about bringing people to know Jesus. They also have a heart for ministering to the marginalised and vulnerable.

Enoch

Enoch is a founding member of the church. He is a part-time medical GP practicing holistic medicine (medical, physical, mental & spiritual). He graduated and worked as a physiotherapist, then went on to study medicine with Degrees in counselling, mental health, and Bachelor of Theology from Presbyterian Theology College.

His family of four children, are all baptized and serving the Lord in their own churches. Enoch believes that living out a life of grace and truth through word and deed is the most effective and most natural way to bring people to Christ because Christianity is not a religion nor a philosophy but a relationship (with God and fellow humans) and a life-style flowing out from that relationship.

Our beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s revelation to us. It is inspired by God, infallible, and has supreme authority in all matters of faith, conduct and experience (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12, 13). Scripture is sufficient for knowing God and His will; and is central to the spiritual well-being of believers and the church.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the second person of the Triune Godhead, who became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful humanity (John 1:1–2, 14; Luke 1:35). Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, and saved humanity from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin by his atoning death on the cross as our representative and substitutionary sacrifice. Our justification and our resurrection are made sure by His bodily resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3–5). The Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and will come again to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5; Romans 14:9; 2 Timothy 4:1).

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God given by grace, and is received by repentance and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins (Ephesians 2:8–10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18–19). The work of the Holy Spirit is necessary to make the death of Jesus effective in an individual’s life. The Spirit enables the sinner to repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ, so that salvation is entirely of God’s grace and not of human merit or works.

Assurance of believers

All the redeemed, once they are saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37–40; 10:27–30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4–8; 1 Peter 1:5). The evidence of salvation is the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Matt 7:15-20) and obedience to God’s Word (James 2:14-26), which clearly forbids the use of Christian freedom as an occasion for sin (Romans 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11–15).

The Devil

We believe that the devil, also known as Satan, brought about the downfall of man, and continues to be at work in leading people away from God.

Lord’s supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is an outward symbol expressing our sharing in the divine nature and work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God

We believe there is one unique and eternal God who exists as one God in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14). As the sovereign creator of all things, He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and worthy of all glory, honour and praise.

Humanity

We believe all people, both men and women, are created in the image of God, and therefore enjoy a unique dignity in creation and a unique relationship with God (Genesis 1:26-28). Tragically, human nature is universally sinful since the Fall, causing all people to be separated from God and under God’s condemnation (Romans 3:9-11). We are unable and unwilling to turn ourselves to God without the prior work of God’s Spirit who gives us new birth (Romans 8:5-8; John 3:3.5).

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Triune Godhead, who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement. He brings about regeneration, sanctification, and baptises all believers into the body of Christ (John 16:8–11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18). The Spirit illuminate believers’ minds to grasp the truth of Scripture, producing in them His fruit, granting them His gifts and empowering them for service.

Final Judgment

We believe that all people (living and dead) will stand before the judgment seat of Jesus Christ to have their eternal destiny determined based on their personal response to God’s offer of salvation in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:17, Romans 2:11, Romans 3:19, Colossians 3:25). We also believe that hell is real – that it is a place of eternal punishment for those who have ignored and rejected God’s offer of salvation.

The Church

We believe that the visible church is the gathering of believers for worship, prayer, the proclamation of God’s Word and fellowship. The church is the body and bride of Christ, made up of all born-again believers (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:25–27; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; 2 Corinthians 11:2). The mission of the church is to witness for Christ, go and make disciples of all nations in His name, and seek the extension of God’s rule (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).

Baptism

We believe that baptism is conferred upon all who have repented and believed in Christ Jesus to be their personal Saviour and Lord. It is an outward sign of the inner work of regeneration that took place when they put their faith in Jesus Christ.

Giving

It is a privilege for Christians to be financial partners in the work of spreading the love and good news of Jesus so that people can receive hope, salvation, care, and eternal life. We give to express our gratitude towards God for His generosity towards us, and to express our trust that God will provide for all our needs if we seek His kingdom first.
